This house, as well as the contiguous one, House of the Eira of the Lage, was build by Reverend Manuel Alves, in the beginnings of the XIX Century, for its residence, because there was no parochial house in the Village of Soajo. After the death of Manuel Alves, in 14 of January of 1862, with the age of 84 years, it was left in will to João Alves, married with Teresa de Jesus Gonçalves Lage, remaining in this family during innumerable decades.
It was in this house, in the decades of 30, 40, 50 and 60 of the passed century, that were made the "fiadeiros" of the Place of the Lage.
In long nights of Winter, were organized "fiadeiros", that consisted of congregating a group of women and young women, who, during that night, would have as task to weave of wool of sheep, to be converted into "agasalhos" (apron to cover - species of layer that the woman used for the coasts, and the stockings that were made with four needles), and it also had the function of amusement, therefore the youngsters knowing that the "fiadeiro" was happening, joined and folloied of "concertinas" (typical music instrument), they went to the house, dancing and this was a great oportunity for them to be with the girls.
This house only left of being of the direct descendants of Priest Manuel Alves in 2000, when the actual owners acquired it to convert into Tourism of Village. |
